It is crucial to determine the signs that your gutter system needs repairs. Whether you are located in Louisville or a surrounding area, make sure to contact us to inspect your gutters for needed repairs and/or replacements. Below are a few signs to keep an eye out for.

1. Improper Slope

If your gutters are at an improper angle or slope, usually it means that there is or has been unnecessary weight in your gutters. There are multiple different reasons why your gutters are improperly sloped such as a clog in your gutters, rotting in the fascia, missing fastener, etc.

2. Paint Peeling or Rust is forming.

If there is paint chips found on the ground underneath your gutters, there could be parts of your gutter exposed which could cause rust to form. If rust is beginning to form, it is crucial to have your gutter repaired to prevent holes from forming and causing expensive damage to the foundation of your home.

3. Pools of Water around your home’s foundation.

Naturally, pools of water will form when it rains but they should not be forming close to your home’s foundation. If there is water forming close to your home’s foundation, water could be leaking into your foundation and/or basement causing structural damage. Some reasons why this could be happening is from water overflowing from the sides of your gutters, cracks or holes in your gutter system, or even gaps between your home and gutter system.

4. Gaps have formed between your home and gutters.

If there is a gap between your home and gutters, water will leak through causing damage to your home’s foundation and/or attic. It is always important to look for any gaps in your gutters. In most cases, you can tell if there is a gap if you see sunlight or water leaking between your roof and gutters.

5. Gutter Hardware around your home’s foundation.

If you are to notice gutter hardware around your home’s foundation such as screws, nails, gutter hangers, rivets, or other gutter hardware, your gutters and home could be at risk of damage.

6. Mildew or Staining in your home’s attic.

It is important to check your home’s attic for water staining or mildew. If there is an excess of mildew or water staining, it could mean that water is flowing correctly into your gutters.

7. Water is overflowing from the sides of your gutters.

If water is overflowing from the sides of your gutters, most likely your gutters are clogged and not able to drain properly. The chance of this happening is increased if you live in an area with a lot of trees. Your gutters can get clogged easily if you do not have your gutters cleaned frequently or have a gutter guard installed.
